The plan would create corporate sponsorships, where local businesses could buy ad space at the South Portland High School football field and gymnasium. Athletic Director Todd Livingston said the plan could help lessen the burden of fundraising by booster clubs. "Any cost over a certain amount, our boosters are responsible for, and those can be significant," said Livingston. "They often fund some of the essential items that we have to have in place for our student-athletes safety." All Community Sponsors Coast Guard extinguish boat fire Submitted by Around Town Web... on Friday, January 29th, 9:21 pm SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER)At around 10 a.m. Thursday morning the U.S. Coast Guard received a distress call from the fishing vessel Miss Lynn stating the engine room was on fire and the two people aboard needed help about four miles south of Port Clyde, Maine. Watch standers in the command center at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England issued an urgent marine information broadcast requesting assistance from mariners. A 29 foot response boat small launched from Coast Guard Station Rockland, and the 225 foot buoy tender Coast Guard Cutter Willow was diverted from operations nearby to assist. The Coast Guard Sector Northern New England will install the new system, the Mariner Radio Activated Sound Signal, or MRASS, in 17 lighthouses across the state, including Spring Point and Ram Island. Boaters will now control the fog signal through VHF radio. Boaters key the radio five times in ten seconds on channel 83 Alpha to activate the signal. Any boater in the line of sight of an equipped lighthouse can activate the signal. The horn sounds intermittently for 60 minutes. Once a boater reactivates the signal, that timer resets, and starts another cycle. "He was saying like several times, repeating that word, ’I’m going to kill you tonight, I will kill you tonight," said the driver, who asked to remain anonymous. "I asked him, ’please, don’t kill me, don’t kill me." The driver said when Stockley looked away, he got out of the car and ran, and that Stockley fired shots. "They found five casings right in the general area. They have no idea where the rounds went," said Sergeant Todd Barlow, of the South Portland Police Department. According to the Spurwink Rod and Gun Club, the Town of Cape Elizabeth has approved allowing gunfire in it’s 25-yard range. In addition to meeting the safety improvements required by the Town, the Cape Elizabeth Police Chief has lifted the live fire ban. The gun club has not been able to have live fire since July 24th. Thanks to the swift action of the K9 team, the "suspect," a notorious elf who has been reportedly entering homes and striking poses, in various levels of appropriateness, in the city has been apprehended, police report.
